Sports Hostel women win JMM football trophy

Government Sports Hostel won the Jayant Mohapatra Memorial Women`s One-day Football Tournament, edging out defending champions East Coast Railway 1-0 in the final at Unit-VI High School ground here today. International Subhaprava Rout scored the all-important goal in the 20th minute to be adjudged the player of the match.
A total of six teams participated in the tournament, which was organised by Unit-VI Athletic Association. Sports Hostel reached the final, winning two league matches and drawing one. Star-studded East Coast Railway won both their league games to set up the title clash.
Urmila Das Football Club (Unit-IX), Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Arunodaya Sporting Club (Cuttack) and Agrahat Club (Choudwar) were other four teams in the fray.
The champions received a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and the runners-up Rs 3,000. Supriya Routray of East Coast Railway took the prize as woman of the tournament. Sports Hostel`s Tikina Samal, Sukanti Rout and Sasmita Behera were adjudged best goalkeeper, best defender and best mid-fielder respectively. The prize for best forward went to Seikh Nisha of Urmila Das Football Club. Odisha Mining Corporation CMD Saswat Mishra handed over the trophy at the closing function.
